Afternoon Out

A couple of hours out this afternoon trying out my newly repaired D500. It seems to be working o.k.

Mallards always sound as though they are laughing.

Same bird but upside down having a bath.

Male GSW

A different male GSW this one was chased off by the one above.

This is the first time I have seen a Kingfisher at this site in years.

Kingfishers must be deaf

The reason I say that is I was in a hide the other day and the noise from the other two lads in there was unbelievable. They were getting louder and more and more excited as the Kingfisher came closer. How it came as close as it did I do not know but I am pleased it did. It was either deaf or it just did not care. I may be wrong but there seems to be a different breed of wildlife enthusiast coming through now who do not have a clue how to behave when they have binoculars or cameras around their necks. People who know me reckon I am loud but I hope I know how to behave when I am out with my camera. Anyway enough of my rant here are a few of the images I took.

South Shields

When the opportunity presents itself you just have to take it Tuesday was that opportunity and South Shields pier was the venue. Snow Bunting was the target bird but the light wasn’t great first thing. After a short wait the Buntings showed well and I managed a few pleasing images. Turnstone, Ringed Plover and Knot were on the rocks and I could not resist taking a few shots. The light still wasn’t great but I drove along to Trow Quarry to see if the Little Owls were around. One of the Owls was in its usual place and hovering not far away was a Kestrel needless to say I took a number of shots of each bird. The afternoon saw the sun come out for a short time so it was back to the pier for more shots of the Snow Buntings, what a difference a bit of sun can make.
