Blanchland & Shibdon Ponds

I was working on Bank Holiday Monday so my wife and I had our Bank Holiday on the Tuesday. We could not decide where to go but eventually decided to have a walk along the river at Blanchland. Of course, I had to take the camera just in case.

Moth. Not sure even after having looked through my book at least three times

Moth. Don’t really have a clue but could be Bird-cherry Ermine?

Again not a clue but it covered nearly every leaf on the tree

One I do know Garden Spider

This one I don’t

Hoverfly. Sphaerophoria species?

Coal Tit

Now this bird has me stumped. I thought when I took the picture it was a Spotted Flycatcher but when I looked at it on the computer I saw it wasn’t. It could be just a Chiffchaff but it was too big (it was about the size of a Robin) any help appreciated.

As above

I dropped my wife off at home and went to Shibdon Ponds to see if I could find any Migrant Hawkers

One posed very nicely

I saw at least two

Flight shots were hard to come by

Hoverfly. Eristalis species?

…downloaded the what3words app so here are just 3 words Stick Kingfisher Fish.

Look what I have just caught

And look what I can do with it

He then did a bit of hovering

Caught another fish

Did a bit more juggling

Then a bit more hovering

Into a dive

No fish shows over

A juvenile Water Rail

A rather strange looking Blackbird
