Out and About

I have been out a couple of times with the camera over the last few days. Nothing special but it’s always canny to be out.

I spooked this Roe Deer while I was out for a walk and I nearly got the focus sharp as it bounded away.

Who doesn’t like a Robin.

Long-eared Owl

I had the car in the garage yesterday and on the walk up to pick it up I came across this Long-eared Owl (I’m pleased I took the camera with me).

Long-eared Owl in the afternoon sun.

The shadows started to creep across.

I managed one shot as it flew off to another roost.

Causey Woods

There have been at least a couple of breeding pair of Dipper on the Causey Burn for a good few years and I have seen and photographed them regularly whatever the season however, over the last couple of months I have failed to see them. I hope they haven’t abandoned this burn whatever the cause maybe. There is a bright side, when I was at the Causey yesterday, I saw at least one pair of Willow Tit, a bird which is apparently declining in numbers, feeding on seeds and small caterpillars. Trying to get pictures of them was, to say the least, challenging they seemed to always be behind twigs and branches.

Willow Tit one of a pair.

A small flock of Long-tailed Tit were also, for a short time, feeding in the same location.

A bird seen regularly at the Causey, Grey Wagtail.

And one from a couple of days ago, a Pheasant which was disturbed by a dog walker.

Little Owl

I have past this site on numerous occasions and this Little Owl has nearly always been there however, I have never had my camera with me, I put that right yesterday and took loads of pictures.

When I passed on the way to where I was going it was sitting partially in shade.

On the way back it was sitting out in the open.

It moved from one place to another.

And posed for ages.

Then flew up into a tree.

Out for a short…

…walk today and I found my first Shieldbug of the year however, if last year was anything to go by, I will have to wait until this Autumn to see my next one.

Barn Owl

Yesterday I went to Bowlees for the Red-flanked Bluetail that’s been there for at least a couple of weeks.  It was seen at 9.30am (I got there 9.35am) and it wasn’t seen again while I was there and that was until 2.55pm (dipped it). However, on the way home I came across this Barn Owl out hunting. It was always distant but I managed to get some shots (all big crops).

Out walking

I have been out for a couple of short local walks recently, here are some images of what I saw.

Roe Buck.

It didn’t hang around once it got wind of me.

Nuthatch looking for insects.

Sparrowhawk landing in a bush.

A distant Willow Tit taking the seeds from a pine cone.
