Far Pastures

07.04.24 I can’t believe it’s ten days since my visit to Far Pastures so I’m still way behind with my post processing (I’ll get there). Some canny crack was had with fellow birders and some canny birds were seen all in all a canny morning out.

Local

24.03.24 A slow short stroll locally this morning produced some canny birds.

Goldcrest. These little things do not stay still for very long.

It’s not often you see a Goldcrests tongue.

A distant Sparrowhawk enjoying the sun it must just have had breakfast as there were small birds flying around it and it just watched them.

It also had its eye on me.

That was until the Crows arrived and saw it off. How it managed to fly through the branches I will never know.

Goldfinch.

Song Thrush. I heard at least three this morning.

Chaffinch.

A distant pair of Roe Deer.

Derwent Reservoir

06.01.24 and a drive around the Derwent Reservoir in the search of Crossbill. A small flock were seen briefly in one of their normal spots but they were high in the trees and didn’t come down to drink which is what I was hoping for. Luckily, I did see a Red Squirrel so it’s nice to see they are still hanging on. I haven’t seen the reservoir so full in a long time, it’s right up to the hide, which meant there were lots of birds but unfortunately, they were all too far off for any decent images.

Red Squirrel.
