Scotland 2025

A trip to the Trossachs Osprey Hide proved fruitful with three fly overs and one dive (apparently, we were lucky with the dive as I got talking to someone else in the hide who had been there three times and had not seen one Osprey let alone a dive). I only wish I had used a shorter focal length lens instead of the 500mm as I chopped off the Ospreys wings in some shots. A bite of bait in a picnic area after the hide visit produced some canny insects. Later that evening I went looking for Beavers with a couple of friends and it turned out to be a canny night.

Female Blackcap.

This male Kingfisher kept us entertained while we waited for an Osprey.

The highlight of the morning a diving Osprey catching a fish.

Burdon Moor

Another walk around one of my favourite places Burdon Moor in the middle of last month (I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again I’m way behind) and once again quite a bit of wildlife to photograph. As always with my Blogs of insects any help with identification would be most appreciated.

I’m going to say final instar Bronze Shieldbug.

Gorse Shieldbug.

Late instar Hairy Shieldbug.

Common Green Shieldbug.

A different Common Green Shieldbug.

A distant Buzzard one of two seen.

I haven’t a clue what this is or what’s going on but I thought I would get a shot of it anyway.

Burdon Moor part two

And this time it’s just Shieldbugs. If I have any of the identification wrong (especially with the instars) please feel free to correct me.

An final instar Bronze Shieldbug with a caterpillar for lunch. (thanks to AM with correct ID on all of the Shieldbugs)

A Common Flower Bug came to have a look.

The Shieldbug just carried on.

It didn’t take long to suck it dry.
