In between taking pictures of the Waxwing at Rowlands Gill I called into Thornley woods a place I haven’t been for a while. Most of the usual suspects were there however it was nice to see a Redwing feeding on the berries of a Holly tree a bird I haven’t seen there in a long time.

More Waxwing images
I went back to Rowlands Gill three times the following day (25th) for the Waxwing once early morning then later that morning then early afternoon. The light was much better while I was there early afternoon the sun was shining and there was blue sky so the images here are from then (I haven’t even been through the images I took earlier in the day there’s no point). A second Waxwing then turned up to the delight of everyone there.

Waxwing
Here are a few images of the single Waxwing at Rowlands Gill this afternoon before the rain came. Let’s hope it hangs around or better still brings some of its maras when the light is supposed to be a bit better tomorrow.

Red Kites
A couple of Red Kites circled the garden and surrounding fields the other day. I was using a 500mm lens and at times they were coming so close I was filling the frame and wings were getting cropped. It’s only a pity that there wasn’t a blue sky.

Bamburgh part two
More from the beach and rocks at Bamburgh. The Sanderling are cracking little birds and I was fascinated by the way they scurried around the beach and as always, I took far too many pictures of them. If I stood still while on the beach most of the birds would come close and weren’t bothered at all about me being there. All in all, it was a great three days.
I thought at first this was a Curlew Sandpiper but the
more I look the more I think it is a Dunlin.
