Short-eared Owls (at least five seen) and supporting cast up on the Durham Moors at the beginning of the month. Thanks to Michael (who I saw at work) for the info.

It wasn’t only a Cuckoo that I saw at Pow Hill. Green Hairstreak were showing well and a Red Squirrel showed up. Up on the moors there were Kestrel, Kite and Buzzard. From the hide a Redshank was on the shores of the reservoir.

I thought at first these Redshanks were going to mate
but it turned out they were having a right old battle.
