Deadly beautiful

I just could not resist getting out again to look for Barn Owls. I saw two this time however, more were seen by other people. Here are a few images.

As a footnote to my last Blog, I got chatting to another photographer while photographing the Barn Owl (someone who I had not met before) about cameras and I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a mirrorless camera body. When I mentioned the one that I was thinking about getting the reply was “you do know it only has 10 frames a second can you cope with that”. Now unfortunately I am of an age that I can remember film cameras that had to be wound on manually. Power winds came out and wow it wound the film on for you so you had to make sure you did not get through a whole roll of 36 film too quickly. How times and technology have changed.

Barn Owl

A late afternoon drive looking for Barn Owl. I found one just after the sun had set so I had to use a high ISO setting to get these shots of this cracking bird.

Red Kites

A couple of Red Kites flew over the village the other day. They hung around for nearly an hour flying just above the roof tops. I began to wonder if they were the ones that were seen roosting in our graveyard a few weeks ago and I did see one land in the trees the day after so here’s hoping they might nest.

Up on the moors

I had a drive up onto the Durham Moors last Friday looking for Barn Owls. I did see one but it was far too far away to get any pictures. I still had a canny morning out though as there was loads to see. One image at the end of this Blog is not for the squeamish.

You can never have to many images of a Red Squirrel.

It was great to see a flock of Fieldfare feeding in a field and as I stood and watched they got closer.

A Red Kite checking me out.

While I was watching the Barn Owl this Buzzard landed nearby.

I came across this grotesque site while I was on the moors. Who would be sick enough to do something like this?
