Rainton Meadows part one

I have just joined Durham Wildlife Trust and now have a key to the hide at Rainton Meadows. Loads to see and I took far too many shots (too many for one Blog) so here are just some of the birds that I saw on my first visit in years.

Great Crested Grebe feeding humbug.

Both parents were feeding the chicks.

Happy family.

But it gets tiring for the adults

And humbugs.

This female Tufted Duck did not like the Grebe being around.

It seemed to be trying to chase it off but the Grebe just went under water.

And carried on doing what it was doing.

However, it was the Tufted Duck that flew off

And the Grebes went back to playing happy families.

It wasn’t only the Tufted Duck that was chasing things this Swan didn’t like the Greylag getting too close.

The Little Grebe were also feeding well.

Although it was having a hard time swallowing one of the fish.

Heron coming in to land.

Lapwing.

Landing.

Catch of the day.

Flying Coot.

Gadwall with one of its chicks.

Emperor Dragonfly skimming over the lake.
