The Dales

30.03.24 A drive up to the Dales with my wife for Wheatear and Ring Ouzel and whatever else was around. We found Wheatear but sadly no Ring Ouzel (I’m going back) however, there was still some canny wildlife was to be seen.

A pair of Wheatear.

Female Wheatear.

Male Wheatear. They both kept looking to the sky

The only thing flying over was a Buzzard.

Wren singing its little heart out.

Some rubbish images taken against the light of what I at first thought was a Medow Pipit but now I’m not sure. It seems to be very Yellow in places could it be a Tree Pipit or is that stretching it too far.

This to me is how a Meadow Pipit should look.

Pied Wagtail.

I don’t know who was startled the most me or the Partridge.

Brown Hare enjoying the sun.

Another one enjoying the grass.

Some very distant Black Grouse.

A heavy crop of the Grouse.

Another very distant bird this time a Raven.

Burdon Moor

31.03.24 I’m still way behind (when I looked at the date, I couldn’t believe it was that long ago) however here are some images from a walk around Burdon Moor.

Chiffchaff with a fly

Which it swallowed

Then got back to calling its name.

Another Chiffchaff nearby.

Gorse Shieldbug.

I thought I might have found some other Shieldbugs given how nice the weather was but Gorse Shieldbugs are the only ones I found.

My first Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly of the year.

Hoverfly (I’m practising flight shots for the Dragonfly season).

Meadow Pipit.

Red Kite.

Earlyish morning stroll

30.03.24 Just a short local stroll the other morning once again produced some canny wildlife.

They may be distant but it’s great to see the pair of Little Owls once again.

By the time I was a little closer one had flown off.

Then it was having trouble from the Jackdaws. I love the expression on the Little Owls face.

But it was eventually left in peace to enjoy the sun.

Again, distant but Foxes were something I didn’t expect to see. They weren’t around long but it was great to see them sniffing around the field.

Unfortunately, the Roe Deer didn’t come as close as they did the other day.

This little Wren was flitting from branch to branch belting it out.
