Shieldbugs

My wife and I had a walk up to the whinny bushes a few days ago in the hope of seeing some Shieldbugs, we weren’t disappointed. We saw a few singles then on one bush there must have been about a dozen some of them trying to mate.

Gorse Shieldbug.

Two’s company.

Three’s a crowd.

Bee gathering pollen.

Distant Linnet.

Leaf Hopper.

Bee drinking nectar.

My first Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly of the year.

These Mining Bees were in the garden when we got back from our walk.

Out and about…

…around the village.

This Brown Hare posed nicely

Until it was photobombed by a Magpie

Then it was off.

Only one Little Owl this time.

It had a bit of a preen.

Then a snooze.

I watched as this Sparrowhawk circled the house hoping it would come into the garden, it didn’t.

Wren.

Buff-tailed? Bumble Bee covered in pollen.

Derwent Reservoir

My wife and I had a drive out again to Derwent Reservoir to see if there were any Osprey unfortunately, we didn’t see any. However, here are some of the things we did see.

Little Ringed Plover.

LRP in flight.

Oystercatcher coming in to land.

Courtship display.

The object of their desire.

Lapwing.

Common Sandpiper.

Buzzard.

Crows mobbing a Buzzard.

Can anyone identify this big bird.

Little Owls

And a Wren from a local walk recently.

Little Owl wondering what it is sitting next too.

Any ideas.

Well, if it’s having a nap so am I.

This one was spooked by a Crow and flew out of a bush and landed on the grass.

It flew up on to the branch.

And had a look around

Then flew into another bush out of sight.

Wren.

Peacock Butterfly.

Once again…

…a walk around Burdon Moor (on two different days).

Male Stonechat. I did see the female but it was too far off.

Long-tailed Tit.

Meadow Pipit.

Another Meadow Pipit.

A bit too far off but as I haven’t seen the Kestrels at Burdon Moor for a while, I thought I would post these.

Gorse Shieldbug.

A different one. I didn’t see many of these on either of my walks.

7 spot Ladybird.
