Once again, I have had the moth trap out over a number of nights for the past couple of weeks. I have not had that many moths in the trap but I have had some decent ones. Here’s the rub some I have not been able to identify (looking at them I thought it would be easy) despite looking through both of my books and on line, part one are those not yet identified (but i'm still trying).
Hi Ron, that's a tricky selection even with the great photos you've got. Not entirely sure of all of them as some very worn and no sense of scale but some I'm sure of and others are my best guesses to point you in the right direction hopefully :
ReplyDeleteMarbled Minor agg. if the right size (one of three species only separable by microscopic examination apparently)
Mottled Rustic
Brown spot Pinion
Ingrailed Clay
Pale Mottled Willow
Clouded Bordered Brindle
Freyer's Pug
Garden Grass Veneer
Dusky Brocade
Middle-barred Minor
Possibly a Clouded Bordered Brindle but not a good angle and very worn
Mottled Rustic
Garden Grass Veneer
There you go, look them up, you may agree you may not but two of the perils of mothing are variation and wear, I often have a few I can't ID 100%, I pass them on to the County Recorder and sometimes even he can't help.
Cheers.
Blimey your good Alan. I can identify some of them when you put a name to them but I would never have been able to do that by myself. Thanks very much for taking the time to go through them and identifying them it’s much appreciated. Cheers
ReplyDeleteNo bother Ron, most of them look familiar as I'm getting the same sort of haul here so just a matter of cross-checking my own records, the same tricky ones seem to appear regularly. You've been getting some crackers otherwise mind.
ReplyDeleteCheers Alan. I’ve got what I think are another couple of crackers but I haven’t looked at them on the computer yet.
