Twizell Woods

 A visit to Twizell Woods, in the middle of last month, to see what Dragonflies were about, the answer was not many but there is always something to photograph.

A male Broad-bodied Chaser with only three wings.

It was still able to fly about.

A female Broad-bodied Chaser ovipositing.

Azure Damselfly.

A pair of Azure Damselfly.

A pair of Large Red Damselfly.

I think this is a species of Cuckoo Bumblebee in flight.

Cuckoo Bee with Helophilus pendulus Hoverfly hovering close by.

Syrphus Sp. Hoverfly.

Eristalis Sp. Hoverfly in flight.

Male Orange-tip Butterfly.

Just before I left for Twizell Woods Red Kite S2 was flying over the garden.

Burdon Moor

 A trip to Burdon Moor the other week proved interesting on the insect front, It was a canny walk out.

Male Common Darter.


Female Southern Hawker. 

Green Leafhopper (female I think).


Cinnabar Moth Caterpillar.


Not sure but could be an Ochsenheimeria urella Moth.

Bumblebee or Cuckoo bee?

It should be easy to identify but I just get confused. I find it hard to distinguish between a Bumblebee and a Cuckoo bee.

This one is being photo bombed.

Wasp cleaning its self.

Common Tachinid.

Hoverfly Myathropa florea.

Grasshopper.

Small White Butterfly.

Stonechat.
